  1. Sociability:
The School Programme is designed to encourage social interaction among all students. Activities are planned where students engage in decision-making and conflict resolution. Character development is emphasized through grooming and values-based lessons.

  2. Library:
The ability to read is an important part of every child's development. To encourage Oakians to have a life long love for books there is a well-equipped library. It offers a wide range of high-interest books to hold students attention. Also the library is furnished with an overhead projector, tape recorders and videocassette recorders. Children have access to a rich and varied selection of literature including poetry, fiction and non-fiction. The library houses more than four thousand books and is an integral part of Silver Oaks.

  3. Reading Development Programme (R.D.P):
At Silver Oaks an extensive Reading Development Programme is an integral part of curriculum. Children enter school at different levels of readiness. The stronger the base of language and literacy awareness is at the time formal schooling begins, the greater is the likelihood of each child's overall learning achievement. We have put together a school-wide reading programme, which emphasizes direct, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, the alphabetic principle and automaticity with the code. A love of quality literature is developed by providing a well-equipped library section in each class. Two books are issued weekly for home reading followed by planned activities related to these books to promote language and communication skills needed for later reading success.

  4. Computer Laboratory:
An appropriate, carefully structured programme is followed so that the children learn all the necessary skills to become computer literate. Integration of computers with other subjects ensures enhancement of topic work studied in the classroom.

  5. Oakian Values:
Teaching values is an integral part of our curriculum. Students are trained to conduct themselves with grace and propriety. They learn to value integrity, excellence, intelligence and lack of pretension. Appreciation and respect for customs and attitudes of diverse beliefs is promoted. Oakians are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions.

  6. Core Values:
This programme has as its goal the cultivation of character through the promotion of basic moral, civic and intellectual virtues. It emphasizes such core values as: respect, responsibility, diligence, honesty, generosity perseverance, courage, faithfulness, and compassion. Each weekly lesson is introduced in the morning assembly and followed up in the classroom.

  7. Morning Assembly:
Morning Assembly takes place three times a week. Every class gets an opportunity to present a well-planned programme. It is mandatory for every student to participate. It is a forum where students learn confidence by taking part in speeches, plays, reading stories and poems and quizzes.

  8. Recognizing achievement:
We seek opportunities to recognize and celebrate students' achievements. Cups, trophies, certificates and prizes ensure that students have a tangible reward for their efforts and outstanding performance.

  9. School Government:
Responsibility is inculcated through authority delegation, encouragement on making choices and appreciation for absorbing the learning. Elections are held for appointment of head girl/ head boy. Every class has a monitor, a language leader, a line leader and books distributor. Children learn leadership, responsibility and management skills through these appointments.

  10. Excursion trips:
Educational and entertainment trips are arranged term wise by the school. Venues are places of interest in the local community, parks, gardens, historical buildings, libraries, factories, government offices etc. Parental permission is sought prior to a field trip.

  11. Physical Education:
Students are trained in Taekwando by an accomplished Black-belt instructor. Physical training, ball games, team games are a part of P.E. Students learn sportsmanship, team work, to abide by rules and regulations and to accept defeat or celebrate victory. Annual Sports Day is held at Army Stadium.

  12. Inter-class competitions:
Debates, speeches, public speaking, drama, reading, writing, listening, quizzes, cooking contests create healthy competition among students.

  13. Science Laboratory:
Silver Oaks has a well-equipped laboratory to fulfill the practical requirements of the Secondary Section. However, as learning is based on an interactive hands-on approach, students are involved in practical work right from the beginning. They learn to present their findings in scientific language, diagrams, graphs, tables, flow charts etc.

  14. Remedial Classes:
Support classes are arranged for new/weak students. Remedial teaching is offered in small tutorial groups or sometimes individually. Parents' involvement is sought as there can be no progress without their help and interest.
